What We Believe
The Mending Peace is a faith-based community. We believe in Jesus Christ, and it is His love that compels us to compassionately respond to those in need: I know that the Lord secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.” (Psalm 140:12)
Our mandate is to seek justice and to aid in the restoration and empowerment of individuals and communities regardless of race, religion, or any status.
We draw strength and unity from our common commitment to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Accordingly, TMP's teammates embrace and contribute to the spiritual community through shared Christian conviction and practice. We provide rehabilitative care and assistance to persons victimized by war and structural violence regardless of their religious beliefs, or ethnicity, and are grateful for the support of all people of good will.

Building up the Beloved
Conventional approaches to aid often hurt local economies. The charity approach fails to teach or offer self-sustainable solutions, leaving people and communities fully dependent on the aid that they receive. After the aid organizations have left to go and aid in another community, we see communities failing to thrive independent of the next organization that comes in.
We have a justice-informed approach. Our goal is not to keep people and communities dependent on us, but to listen, learn and collaborate. We hope to teach the beloved people in their community how to be independent of aid, organizations and cultivate peace from within themselves and their own communities. We partner with the small, local organizations and community leaders who know the people and their needs the best. We stay and help them walk through the hard process—so that when it is time for us to go, we leave an impact of fully equipped organizations and individuals that are able to continue the just work by serving their communities.

We Depend on Private Funding. We don’t depend on government funding, we depend on partnerships with companies, Churches, organizations and individuals. We believe that we can partner together to do the just work that we are called to do.
Change does not happen overnight. We commit to a community or nation in crisis for the long run and think about the state of the community for the next 15-20 years. We’ve chosen not to rely solely on local, state or federal funding so we can be free to respond to those who are in need of our services, when they need our services and how they need our services. |
We are Mercy led, Trauma-Informed.We are a team of individuals who recognize the widespread impact of trauma on people, and how it can affect individual’s responses to one another. It is this awareness that empowers us to seek to understand people, no matter their background. From this lens, our goal is to rise above the division and confront our individual biases.
We bring our authentic selves to the table—our faith in Christ, our cultures and different backgrounds. This posture of honesty teaches us the importance of cultivating a culture of honor and integrity, as we work with those who have different cultures, beliefs, backgrounds, and lived experiences than us-from a lens of mercy. |
Reconciliation is Transformational.Transformational development cannot effectively occur unless the communities we work with address the issues that have plagued them or their nations for 20 plus years. As an organization, we believe that these internal forces work actively against any attempts to achieve community cohesion and development.
Addressing trauma is not often thought of when considering economic justice, social justice, and communities in conflict. We believe that every decision is one step toward transformational development and reconciliation. We don’t just talk about peacemaking; we create and build teams from different backgrounds to do the healing work in their homes and community, reaching towards the goal of achieving long-term sustainable peace and development. |
